The compact SUV segment is seeing high demand
nowadays and with the Mahindra TUV300, there is now even more choice to the
customers. Mahindra has a great name in the utility vehicles market and the new
car is sure to add one more feather to its cap. Launched on 10th
September 2015, the TUV300 went on to become the second best-selling SUV car
just within one month of its launch. Here is a short review following the first

Appearance,
design and build quality
As the name suggests (Tough Utility Vehicle), the
TUV300 is a strong car with an imposing road presence. Yet it is lighter and
compact than most of its rivals as it is built on a new ladder framed
chassis. It is built on the lines of a battle-tank and carries the traditional
boxy look with minimal body work and curves. The sub 4 metre SUV is 3995 mm
long, 1835 mm wide and 1839 mm tall. A blackened D pillar, vertical tail lamps,
full size mounted spare wheel in the tailgate, sweptback headlamps, square fog lamps
and a rectangular mesh intake are the prominent features outside.
Interior
cabin and comfort features
The wheelbase of 2680 mm gives way for a spacious
cabin which is laid out neatly in a dual toned black and beige colour. 7 people
can sit in comfortably in the 2+3+2 seating arrangement. It also offers the
best-in-class boot space of 384 litres that can be expanded up to 720litres by
folding away the rear seats. The plastics and knobs are of good quality and the
texture is smooth to touch. The piano black hexagonal centre console houses the
HVAC vents and infotainment system. Other notable features include power
steering, power windows, tilt-able steering, digital immobilizer and ECO mode,
keyless entry, voice messaging system and driver seat height adjuster. The car
also meets all safety regulations.
Engine
specifications and the ride quality
The Mahindra
TUV300 is powered by a 1.5-litre mHawk80 turbocharged
diesel engine with the Micro hybrid technology. It is capable to produce a
maximum power of 84 bhp along with 230 Nm of torque. Transmission options on
offer are a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed automated manual transmission. Mahindra
claims a fuel efficiency of only 18.49 kmpl for the TUV300.The engine is nimble
and never feels under powered during the drive. The clutch pedal is lighter and
the steering wheel picks up weight as the speed increases. The tough suspension
and high ground clearance makes it an ideal vehicle to drive on unfavourable
terrain. Stopping power is controlled by ventilated discs in front and drum
brakes at rear, enhanced by ABS+EBD.
