The in-fashion compact SUV/crossover segment is just
getting hotter by frequent new launches in this segment. Launched here on July
21st this year, Creta was the most anticipated car from the South
Korean based automaker after the i20 Active crossover. The car made almost
15000 pre-launch advance bookings and soon went on to become the most selling
SUV within just one month of the launch.

Overview
Measuring 4270 mm in length, 1780 mm in width and
1630 mm in height, the Creta carries a wheelbase of 2590 mm and a healthy 190
mm ground clearance. A raised stance, bold chrome grille, sweeping headlamps
and flat bonnet with a black cladding all around are the notable features
outside. The famed Fluidic sculpture is very evident in the new car and it has
an imposing road presence. Some of the impressive features seen in the Creta
are the projector headlamps with LED positioning lamp, 17” Diamond Cut alloy
wheels, 7” audio video navigation with 6 speakers, Smart key with Push button Start
and 6 airbags. Although the Creta is a compact SUV, its wheel base promises a
decently spacious cabin with good head room and knee space.
Engine
and Performance
Hyundai offers two diesel engines and one petrol
motor. The diesel range gets a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel powertrain which produces
maximum power of 90 PS along with 220 Nm of top torque and is mated to a six
speed manual gearbox. The other diesel motor is a 1.6-litre,producing 128 PS of
peak power and 260 Nm of maximum torque. This engine is available in six speed
manual as well as six speed automatic transmissions. The petrol unit is a 1.6-litre
VTVT gasoline engine capable of churning out a high power of 123 PS along with
151 Nm of top torque. This engine is also linked to the six speed manual
transmission. All the engines are refined and the gear shifts are quite smooth.
Mileage offered is also decent at 17-19 kmpl for the diesel ones and 15-21 kmpl
for the petrol ones.
The
ride
Like most other Hyundai cars, the Creta also offers
a fairly smooth ride. The electronic power steering is just perfect. Ventilated
disc brakes at front and drum brakes at the rear are responsible for accurate
stopping power. The NVH levels are very well under control resulting in a quiet
cabin. One reason that makes the Creta stand over its rivals is its automatic
diesel engine, which is the very first and also the only one in its segment. The
automatic versions have been perfectly tuned in for highway cruising as well as
urban city drives. It is hard to beat the Creta in terms of styling,
refinement, practicality and ease of use.
