What happens when Mahindra comes up with
a tough, ladder-frame SUV – a Tough Utility Vehicle or TUV is born. 2015
Mahindra TUV300 is not derived from an MPV, nor is it a monocoque crossover.
Being manufactured from the grounds up, the TUV300 was modelled on the lines of
a battle tank. The TUV300 compact SUV is being offered in several variants—T4,
T4+, T6, T6+, T6+AMT, T8 and T8 AMT.
Dimensions
The sub 4-metre SUV is 3995 mm in
length, 1839 mm in height and 1835 mm in width. It is capable of loading 7
passengers. The ground clearance is 190 mm while it has a 2680 mm of wheelbase.
The boot space of the TUV is 384 litres but it can expand to 720 litres by
folding the middle and last rows.
Power
Powering the Mahindra
TUV300 is a 1493cc mHawk diesel engine (called the
mHawk80) that is a 3-cylinder engine but delivers 85 PS and a 230Nm of max
torque available from 1500-2250 rpm. The TUV300 does a 0-100 in 17.4 seconds.
The fuel efficiency is 14.65 kmpl. The automated manual transmission (AMT) has
been co-developed with Ricardo.
Exterior
The front has a multi slat grille and a
set of simple yet well designed headlamps units that go well with the overall
design. The rectangular fog lamps gel really well. The tailgate mounted spare
wheel and vertically stacked tail lamps and the rear bumper are well styled.
The D pillar is blacked out and the C-pillar is in the same body color and
breaks the large glasshouse lines really well.
Interior
Inside,
one gets the connectivity and gadgets and the cabin is reasonably airy with
great headroom and generous legroom. Air conditioning is powerful and the cabin
cools quickly. The dual tone black and beige interiors look good with a dash of
chrome and metal finish around it. The hexagon shaped centre bezel and the dash
layout and pattern is very good looking. The infotainment system comprises
2-DIN audio, Bluetooth, USB, and AUX. It has a neat and stylish steering wheel
with audio and phone controls mounted on it. It also has a sporty twin-pod
instrument cluster. There are lot of storage spaces provided inside, especially
on every inside door panel to keep bottles and other knick knacks.
Safety
The TUV300 is made of toughened high
strength steel body shell for all around impact protection, 3rd generation
crash-worthy chassis, to endure low and high speed crashes, front crash sensors
and automatic door locking to prevent doors from openly accidently.
Mahindra TUV 300 is available in - Bold
Black, Molten Orange, Majestic Silver, Dynamo Red, Erve Blue, and Glacier
White.
