The year 2014-15 saw the launching of many high-tech
cars in the world. The BMW i8 is a high-tech car from the Germen luxury car
maker the BMW AG. This futuristic car is a plug-in type hybrid car which uses the
combination of an electric motor and a petrol engine intelligently to power the
car. The production model unveiled during the 2013 German Auto Show has been
launched in the Western markets in June 2014. In India the i8 has been launched
in February 2015.

Body
The BMW i8 in coupe style has a pleasing front view
with the unique kidney shaped BMW grille, automatic LED head lights, LED

electric ORVMs with anti-dazzle function, a sun roof, self-locking wheel bolts,
rain sensing wipers a rear spoiler and 20” alloy wheels.
Comfortable
cabins
The cockpit like cabin of the i8 is spacious with
large head rooms and shoulder rooms. The standard features include an automatic
AC with 2-zone cooling, leather upholstery, leather-wrapped multi functional
steering wheel, smart-key entry and electrically adjustable seats. The BMW
ConnectiveDrive includes 4 top view and side view cameras, BMW Heads-up display
and digital instrument display on a 22” screen. Also there are features like
voice control, Harman touch controller, GPS navigation system, Bluetooth
connectivity and front and rear parking assistance with camera.
Braking
and safety
The i8 is loaded with braking safety features like
Dynamic Stability Control, ABS, Cornering Brake Control, Hill assistance and
electric parking brake. Other safety features include 8 air bags, anti-theft
alarm and acoustic protection for the pedestrians.
Green
car
The i8 has a 131 bhp electric motor connected to a
chargeable 7.1 KWh Li-Ion battery and a 1.5 litre, 231 bhp petrol engine for
powering the vehicle with a net fuel efficiency of 47.45 kmpl. The total power
when both are used comes to 360 bhp and torque 570 NM. There are two selectable
drive modes; the comfort mode and EcoPro mode. In EcoPro mode the pollution is
minimal.
