The Indian car market is growing incredibly and one of the
fastest growing segments here is that of affordable hatchbacks. Now with the
latest Maruti Suzuki Celerio, there is an added choice for the car buyers. The
closest competitor to the Celerio seems to be Hyundai i10 which is almost in
the same price range and has got almost similar engine and looks. Here is a
detailed comparison between these two cars. Read more latest Tweets from AutoPortal

If we talk about exterior dimensions, the newcomer measures
slightly more than the Hyundai car in every way except for the height. But when
it comes to looks Celerio is hardly a match to the i10. From any angle, the i10
definitely looks more appealing than the Maruti Celerio. Hyundai car is much
more proportionate and it looks very trendy with the flowing lines, roof rails,
body side mouldings, rear spoiler and chrome door handles.
Moreover Hyundai i10
is almost 20 per cent heavier than Celerio and has a superior build quality
which provides it more stability and robustness.Likewise, the interiors also speak the same story. Although
it gets a fresh interior layout and an attractive dashboard design, Maruti
Celerio simply fails to make an impression in front of the i10.
The Hyundai car
feels roomier and has a classy dashboard layout. The i10 also beats the Celerio
when it comes to equipment levels and quality of plastics. Although Celerio has
an extra boot space of 235 litres which is only 225 litres in i10, the latter
gets more storage spaces inside the cabin. The Celerio does offer more headroom
due to its tall boy design, but then its seats are not as comfortable as in the
i10.
Celerio is a 1.0-litre engine that produces 67 BHP with a
fuel efficiency of 23.1 kmpl. The Hyundai 1.1-litre unit creates a maximum
power of 69 PS and yields an ARAI rated economy of 19.81 kmpl. Its bigger 1.25-litre
kappa engine, which comes with VTVT technology, delivers 87 PS of power and a
mileage of 20.36 kmpl. Thus the overall performance of the i10 engine is simply
too good than the Celerio’s unit. But Celerio has the AMT model or clutchless
transmission and this gives it a strong advantage over the i10. Also Celerio engine
is more frugal and shows higher mileage figures.
Coming to features, i10 again steps up with smart key, push
button start, 1GB storage for audio system, electrically retracting rear view
mirrors, rear AC vents, rear parking sensors and ergonomically placed steering
buttons. Sadly the Celerio misses out certain important features like ABS on
the automatic variant.
The price of Celerio
is approximately Rs 3.9-5.71 lakhs while Hyundai i10 comes around Rs 4.18-4.99
lakhs. Auto Portal India - Google+ : New way to find a car .
