History
Ford Motors Limited, the second largest automaker
worldwide and a listed company on the New York Stock Exchange, was founded by
Sir Henry Ford in the year 1903. Ford began its operations in India in 1926,
but had to withdraw soon owing to the business policies of the government then.
However Ford re-entered our markets in 1995 and started production and sales
the very next year. The first Ford car officially seen on Indian roads was the
Escort which was soon followed by the Ikon.
Current
line-up of cars
Ford, at present has at least one car in all
segments here. They are the Figo, Fiesta, Classic, Ecosport and Endeavour. The
little Figo in the hatchback section is one of the most popular Ford cars in
the country. Running successfully since 2010, this car is built and priced to
Indian likes. Launched in 2011, the Fiesta is a long and wide luxurious sedan
witha longer wheelbase as well. Their prices range from Rs 8 to 10lakhs. A
cheaper option in this segment is the Ford Classic. Its base variant is
available at just Rs 5 lakhs. The huge Ford Endeavour is a mighty vehicle with
plenty of sitting as well as storage space and is ideal for rough terrains.
Besides forceful road presence, it is blessed with loads of safety and comfort
features. Ecosport is a sporty looking car which looks and feels like a big
vehicle but is very handy and practical like any other
hatchback around. It created a sensation in the entire car market when launched
in 2012 and has enjoyed exceptionally high sales since then.
Latest
launches
Ford recently marked its entry into the hot compact
sedan segment as well. The new Aspire sedan was launched in August 2015. Ranged
between Rs 4.89 to Rs 8.24 lakhs, Aspire comes with several segmentfirst
features such as 6 airbags, 6 speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, leather
seats and many more. An all-new Figo was also launched in September 2015, which
is a second generation model of the old Figo.
Endeavour New is the next car slated for a year end
release. Another much awaited car is the internationally acclaimed Mustang in
the premium sedan segment. It might hit the Indian shores early next year and
might carry a price tag of Rs 50000 approximately. Considering the high demand
for compact SUVs and MPVs, Ford has also decided to bring in the B-Max, a mini
MPV, priced in the range of Rs 6-8 lakhs.
